Edgeware, the pioneer of TV CDN technology, has introduced Ad Enabler – a brand new product that segments the content stream in an extremely accurate manner to make sure the advert comes on exactly when it is supposed to. Ad Enabler provides frame-accurate segmentation that prevents fractions of old ads being shown or parts of content from being lost, both of which cause glitches for the end-viewer. Edgeware’s Ad Enabler is one of the first to support live OTT ad insertion on the MPEG-DASH standard, which is the native format for Android devices.
Inserted as part of Edgeware’s Origin solution, Ad Enabler prepares the content stream so that personalized ads can be dynamically and seamlessly inserted, server side, into the stream. It integrates with leading ad technology vendors and offers a glitch-free transition between a program and the ad.
Ad Enabler is integrated with leading ad-stitching technology vendor, Yospace, for server-side dynamic ad insertion (SSAI). The insertion of ads server-side results in a seamless, TV-like user experience.
Ad Enabler uses frame-accurate segmentation to allow an exact and seamless transition between content and advert frames, which can be used in SSAI for live OTT, live-to-VoD and time-shift TV services. It detects the SCTE-35 ad markers in an incoming live stream, which dictates where an ad break is to be inserted into the stream and for how long is should play. The frame-accurate segmentation provided by the Ad Enabler ensures that the transition between content and ads are made according to the SCTE-35 markers and that ad breaks don’t override any parts of the content, show old ads or disrupt the viewing experience.
This integration is significant as it allows broadcasters and customers to monetize live simulcasts natively across the widest range of connected devices.
